UPDATE

Dear Friends,

Good morning! You would be surprised to see the changed format of the blog. Let me have your feedback about the same. I have changed it to utilize the entire page rather than half page.

1. President Dr. Sharmishtha Desai and Polio Plus Chairman Manisha Bhatt attended the Polio Orientation Meet at Bharuch on 23rd August. They were inspired and RCBM Clan is geared up for the final push.

2. BoD meeting at Rtn. Pinky Patel's house was attended by 16 Members. Vow! May be this is the effect of September after the lull of August. The average attendance of August had dropped to 44%.

3. Kindly note the following important announcements:

(i) 3rd September Business Meeting has been shifted to 4th September on account of Ganesh Visarjan. All the important Board decisions will be passed by the General Body in that meeting alongwith action plan for Atma Nirbhar and introducton of new member - Ms. Mina Kothari.

(ii) 6th September - Drawing Competition at M.P. Patel High School, Dashrat from 9.30 a.m. as well as Atma Nirbhar Camp. You would be happy to know that Youth Service Director Rtn. Pinky Patel has worked hard to start Interact Club at the same School with the help of Rtn. Nileshbhai to prove how sincere we are to work on the suggestion of our District Governor Major Sharma. Please note that the Project Meeting will be followed by lunch so come in large numbers to enjoy 'joy of service' and 'fellowship.' Sponsors are invited like we had done it at Swapnil. Rtn. Nilesh and Rtn. Sunil have volunteered. We need two more to make it better than what we enjoyed at Swapnil

(iii) 10th September meeting adjusted against District Membership Seminar

(iv) 13th September - District Membership Seminar hosted by RC Vallabh Vidyanagar at Elecon Hall from 9.30 a.m. till lunch. RRIMC Dr. Manoj Desai will be the Chief Guest. Let us have real good attendance of new members as well as senior members.

Rest of the Board decisions will be conveyed in the next meeting in the General Body meeting and then will be uploaded on the blog. Even October meetings have been finalized.

4. Please read Message from GSE Chairman PDG Kulbandu Sharma. Group Study Exchange is one of the most popular programme of our Rotary Foundation. International Service Director Rtn. Sunil Vakil is requesting all to suggest names of young professionals after you have gone through the details. Kindly find GSE Chair Kulbandu ji's letter pasted below. It is self explanatory. Please suggest names for club level interview.

Sub: -Application for GSE Team - Leader and Team members
You are aware that during the Rotary Year 2009-10 we are paired with R. I. District 6900 in USA and with RI Dist 3220 in Srilanka for the Group Study Exchange programme of the Rotary Foundation. The team from R. I. District 6900 – Atlanta USA is arriving in our district on 3rd January 2010 and will be here until 1st February 2010. The team from R.I. Dist. 3220 will arrive in our District on the 28th January 2010 and will be with us till 26th February 2010. Please welcome them with our usual hospitality.

Our teams will visit Srilanka and USA between 16th January 2010 to 15th February 2010 and to USA between 10th April and 9th May 2010.

This letter comes to you to invite your club’s participation in this programme by sponsoring Team leader/Team member to be eligible for district interview and upon selection to be part of the visiting team to district R.I. District 6900, USA or R.I. District 3220 Srilanka. While making a selection of the outstanding professionals for the Team and outstanding Rotarian as Leader, please read and review the following criteria for team members. Publicize this program in your community and invite applications for participation. The candidates could either be male or female.

Candidates whose career will not be measurably enhanced or who may not be expected to continue in their careers for reasonable time are considered inappropriate selections and will be rejected at the District level.

REPORT ON DG MAJOR S.K. SHARMA’S VISIT
Here is my report of DG Major Sharma’s visit:
20th August will be remembered as a meaningful and memorable day for RCBM Clan, not only because it was DG’s visit but because of the compliments that DG S.K. Sharma showered on us.
DG Major Sharma and RCBM President Dr. Sharmishtha, both, proved to be excellent in time management. They started sharp at 9.30 a.m. and the whole day’s proceedings went on as per planning to the extent that evening meeting was over in precise 75 minutes, as it was planned. Kudos to all the Board Members, Chairmen as well as those who participated in the programme for their hard work and time management!
DG Major Sharma proved to be truly a F.G.P. – Friend, Philosopher and of course a Governor who guides. His certain tips at the time of Assembly have been noted in the Minutes and everyone respected his suggestions and agreed to work on Water Projects and Literacy Projects. Governor whole-heartedly appreciated the preparation and more importantly the Report Binder which was prepared to meet with all the requirements by President and Secretary. He accepted in principle our proposal for a possible Matching Grant but also informed about the constraint that he has because of limited DDF.
In the afternoon Governor visited Project Sanjeevani at Kalali as well as new Member Chetan Somani in his office before visit Project ATMA NIRBHAR. He was full of praise for both the Projects and described them as “Temples of Humanity” during the evening meeting (Let us have more temples friends. Yes, together we can do it!).
Evening meeting saw nearly 50 Rotarians, Anns, Annets & Rotaractors. Rtn. Manisha R. Bhatt prayed in her melodious voice for all. Rtn. Nilesh Taunk recited the 4-Way Test. President Dr. Sharmishtha welcomed all and gave brief eye view of RCBM activities in the last seven weeks and committed to live upto the expectation of DG.
She then invited 3 new members to the Rotary fold and DG inducted them with proper Shapat Vidhi (picture beautifully depicts the same!).

Then President highlighted and requested DG to recognize “Givers” of last year – Rtn. Nilesh Patel and Rtn. Utkarsh Hathi as well as PHF of this year – Ms. Esha Bhatt, Ms. Stuti Bhatt, Mrs. Kusumben Chhaya and Ms. Malaaika Chhaya. DG was highly appreciative of spontaneous givers in Rtn. Mitesh Bhatt who decided to become PHF and Rtn. Nandkishore Hemrajani who decided to become a Major Donor in addition to above mentioned 4 PHF. Rtn. Malvik Hathi asked some time to think over when DG requested him to become a Major Donor. Kudos to 'Givers Tribe' called RCBM.

All this was over in the first 30 minutes and the floor was handed over to DG after apt and flawless introduction by Rtn. Premal Smart, who said; “No Shak, No Sawal about your leadership. We commit to serve under your leadership.”
I continue to wonder how I should describe DG’s speech. Of course, it was Governor’s speech! But only a few times we felt that a Major was talking to us but most of the time it was a spiritual address of a Swami! DG beautifully defined what is Rotary by saying that - It is an organization of people who have zeal to serve· A good Rotarian is one who wants to give back to the society.
He was full of praise for “Temples of Humanity” created by RCBM - Project Sanjeevani & Project Atma Nirbhar. That is where he requested all to give a standing ovation to Rtn. Nilesh Patel for Project Atma Nirbhar. After that he highlighted Conference ‘Jalsa’ for a short time, unlike what we have experienced in the past.
His final tips to President Dr. Sharmishta and all of us was to remain “Sahaj, Saral and practice 90:10 principle.” He reminded us of Guru Nanak – “Sab Ke Saath and Sabko Saath Le Ke Chalo.” DG went on to spiritual path of Panchmahabuth and told his own story why and when he became a Giver. That is where he came out with his Magic Galla (Jar), which was filled up in no time after listening to his meaningful and inspirational words.
He said that I consider this club as a ‘Premier Club’ of our District. It is a ‘Givers’ Club’ that continues to give and was really happy that even after the meeting was over Dr. Agam Shrivastav decided to become PHF! A meaningful day, a memorable day, i.e. how we will all remember our FGP’s visit. Thank you DG Major Sharma for your generous words of appreciation for RCBM Clan.
He was profusely thanked in a beautiful and poetic way by IPP Rajan Bhatt. Over the dinner, people said “Yeh Dil Mange More!”
Friends, this is the best I can describe what I experienced but I invite your colours by expressing yourself in comments. I have been eagerly waiting for your comments as till now only 15 followers are there of our blog.
All the best and have a nice weekend.

Dear Friends,
It is said that August is a month of Holidays. I have started believing the same looking to the attendance in last two meetings! Or is it the Swine Flu scare? I will be sending you a good powerpoint on the same for better understanding of the disease and the precautions.
Yesterday on 13th August we had only 10 Rotarians present for the meeting. President Dr. Sharmishtha highlighted programme of DG's visit for the whole day as well as for the evening meeting. It is going to be a family meeting and hope to see you in large number. There were many other points of information.
1. President opened the meeting with a great joy as pride of our District Kalyan Banerjee is nominated as RI President for 2011-12. We all remember his soul stirring speech on Installation Day.
2. Our Club Roster is getting updated, so the present members gave their classification and the update as some of them have changed their work. Shortly you would find the entire club members addresses, phone numbers and their classification on our blog.
3. 23rd August - Yet another important District Event - Polio Plus Orientation Meet for Central Zone will be hosted by Rotary Club of Baroda Airport. President Tapan of RCBA requested us to join hands, which has been agreed upon. The funding for the meeting will come from National Polio Plus Committee. Our Club's Polio Plus Committee consists of Manisha M. Bhatt, Dhiren Kothari and Rajan Bhatt, who would attend the meeting alongwith President and Joint Secretary. Anyone interested in attending the meeting is welcome. The venue would be VCCI Hall, Makarpura and timings will be 9.30 to 1.30 p.m.
4. Details of DG visit programme as well as the assignments for evening meet were finalized.
5. Another joint meeting on 6th September is planned between three clubs of Baroda on General Quiz. President informed all the rules of the game.

"KARMAYOGI" KALYAN BANERJEE NOMINATED AS RI PRESIDENT 2011-12

A PROUD MOMENT FOR ALL ROTARIANS IN INDIA AND MORE SO FOR US AS THIS YEAR'S TEAM WAS INSTALLED AT HIS HANDS. LET'S CELEBRATE BY DOING MORE SERVICE.

Minutes of Meeting of 6th August with Board of Directors’ Decisions
Dear Friends,
Yesterday’s meeting saw relatively less attendance – call it the “Shravan Effect” or “Sawan Effect!” 18 Members remained present for AG Alok Desai’s visit, which is in reality rehearsal for DG Major Sharma’s visit.
The meeting started with prayer by all and 4-Way Test by Rtn. Iqbal Hakim. After the short Opening Remarks, President invited Rtn. Nilesh Taunk to introduce himself. Nilesh is an MBA and hails from Jhalia, Dhanbad. He is the progeny of Rai Bahadur Taunk, who were the main Railway Contractors for Nagpur – Kolkata railway line. Nilesh showed his command over Gujarat, English and Hindi languages and highlighted turning points of his life, which are as follows:
1. Pramukh Swami Maharaj invited him to Gujarat where he has no roots otherwise.
2. He was the first one, way back in 1991, to start water in pouches at the cost of one Rupee.
3. Yet again, he was the first one to start auto rickshaw advertisement for Pankaj Groundnut Oil.
4. Destiny opens the gates said Nilesh, highlighting his work for Karnavati Express in which his first ad campaign started.
5. He also tried out peanut factory and learnt the most important lesson of his life – “Play to your strength and not for money.”
6. Then he started delivering railway tickets. Can you believe it?
7. Destiny made him a Teacher in Indian Oil Company, SECOM, MBA, BBA SECOM, Bhavans, etc. due to he is so powerful in questioning techniques (art of facilitation).
8. During this long journey, he has played as an escort to the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Shankararcharya, Hindujas, G.K. Noor, Hariom Sharan and many other celebrities. This he attributed to his Guru’s inspiration.
9. He ended by saying that let’s know everyone’s story as every story is interesting and teaches you many things. He praised his daughter Vishakha, whom we might see in one of the next advertisement campaigns for Blood Donation and AIDS of Government of Gujarat. Welcome Mr. & Mrs. Taunk and Charming Daughter Vishakha.
Then was the time for our Assistant Governor Alok Desai, who was flawless in describing his journey since 2000 with RCBM. He thanked Rtn. Iqbal Hakim for initiating him in Rotary fold. He gave rich tribute to RCBM by say that it is his “Karma Bhumi” as well as “Anand Ashram.” After conveying greetings from DG Major Sharma, he beautifully highlighted the journey of RCBM in last 10 years that he observed and reminded everyone that this is a club of ‘Pathfinders,’ ‘Trendsetters’ and ‘Difference Makers.’ Innovative as he is, he came out with a new definition for RCBM in the following words – “Unique blend of ethics and aesthetics!” With utmost humility he put forward the new concept of looking good but also being good human being – is a virtue when combined and implemented.
Then he invited Board of Directors to highlight their plans for the year and achievements so far. Rtn. Manisha and Rtn. Iqbal highlighted their plans. Rtn. Savir Julka and Rtn. Bharat Mehta were absent but were graceful enough to send soft copy to President Sharmishtha who then highlighted on their behalf their suggestions and achievements. Then President herself highlighted her dream year and the goals. She reminded us of RI President John Kenny’s subtle theme – THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS and the most important goal – Membership, which has been achieved but now the target is revised to 50. We are going to induct three to four new members at the time of DG’s visit!
AG Alok Desai concluded by giving some tips about missing things like Scholarship, TRF, etc. He was generous enough to tell everyone that he is really proud to belong to RCBM.
Visiting Rtn. Y.R. Bakshi from RC Dhauladhar
, which is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas near Palampur, RI Dist. 3070 was recognized and appreciated by all the Rotarians of our Club. He invited all to his beautiful place.
As always, Mitesh and Manisha, the Club Service Directors are working over time which was evident in the unique menu over which fellowship continued for the next 45 minutes. Those who missed this meeting really missed something important.
Dr. Manoj Desai

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 16TH JULY
Very well attended meeting! Sincere appreciation to ROCBM Clan. 33 Members out of 42 remained present while 3 members are on Leave of Absence.
Vice President Nandkishore was to the point in the opening remarks and invited Rtn. Manisha for prayers.
Treasurer Anil gave update on fees collection with good news that more than 90% of the Members have paid their dues for the year 2009-10. He reminded that those who have not paid should make the payment reach before the last date when our RI dues will be going to Delhi i.e. 20th July.
Club Trainer Malvik was precise in giving History of Rotary. He also assured that this will be a regular feature in order to know the latest happenings in Rotary.
Rtn. Ashish Garg who hails from Jabalpur highlighted beautifully 3 Defining Moments of his life which clearly showed his (1) courage and conviction, (2) seeking self improvement all the time and (3) family is the top priority. He talked about his 2 Passions – number crunching and learning human behaviour and he highlighted his dream of wanting to be an Entrepreneur and creating a better society for the world to be a better place to live in. He was full of praise for Rachna – his better half.
Then Rtn. Rachna came to the podium with her infectious smile on the face and she told everyone that she belongs to Raipur and did Masters in Food & Nutrituion as well as English Literature. Having served in school for 3 & 1/3 years, she felt the need for more challenging things and that is where they discussed matters and now he has enrolled in PGDBA at Pune. It was heartening to know that she had represented her area at Nationals in Badminton.
We RCBM Clan are happy to have you with us, which you must have judged from the thunderous applause that you have got! We would love to meet and greet your children in one of the family meetings.
After that Rtn. Bharat, Director – Vocational Service highlighted two most important aspects of Vocational Service – (1) The 4-Way Test and (2) Most important but not known – Declaration of Professionals and Business.
Then came the time of What is Rotary and Strategic Planning for the Club by none other than myself. Feed back has to come from you friends as no one should write about his own performance. 33 Members out of 42 unanimously said that we should revise the target of membership to 50 members this year and 5 members have already committed to bring in their friends.
Director – Club Service Mitesh and Manisha need to be complimented for the beautiful arrangements and the excellent menu as well as secretarial announcements.
Finally the stage was set for Savir for the laughter and sure enough, he made everyone laugh whole-heartedly before singing the national anthem together.
SEE YOU ON 26TH JULY at 9.30 a.m. at Anil Bordvekar’s Farm at Sindhrot for Tree Plantation. Please note that this Thursday you are free. Please confirm your participation as we really want to have you all for “Jungle Mein Mangal!”

WELL DONE PRESIDENT (2008-09) RAJAN & HIS TEAM.
WELCOME PRESIDENT (2009-10) DR. SHARMISHTHA & HER TEAM.
My Dear Friends,
Welcome to the first ever blog for our Rotary Club of Baroda Metro Clan. I am sure it would be interesting to go through the same as it would contain all the worth while news of our club. You would all agree that no one is perfect and hence I would very much wish to receive your suggestions to excel in this format. I thank President Dr. Sharmistha for giving me this opportunity.
IPP Rajan Bhatt and his team requires our heart felt congratulations for writing 2008-09 Chapter in golden letters, highlighting service in a beautiful way.
Kindly find in this first issue A Bird's Eye View of Service Projects since we got our Charter on 17thJune, 1986 - call it Basking in the Glory of the Past or information to the new comers! We have come a long way friends and we are now going towards Silver Jubilee. It would be worthwhile knowing the Club, it's Members and their contribution in service - fructifying the Rotary Spirit.
Let us all wear the Rotary Pin with pride as well as PHF Pin as our's is the only PHF Club in Baroda (5th PHF of our District 3060). That certainly proves the point that here is a Givers' club. Kindly see the RCBM Brochure for more details to know more about Givers & Doers Tribe.
