"KARMAYOGI" KALYAN BANERJEE NOMINATED AS RI PRESIDENT 2011-12
A PROUD MOMENT FOR ALL ROTARIANS IN INDIA AND MORE SO FOR US AS THIS YEAR'S TEAM WAS INSTALLED AT HIS HANDS. LET'S CELEBRATE BY DOING MORE SERVICE.
Minutes of Meeting of 6th August with Board of Directors’ Decisions
Dear Friends,
Yesterday’s meeting saw relatively less attendance – call it the “Shravan Effect” or “Sawan Effect!” 18 Members remained present for AG Alok Desai’s visit, which is in reality rehearsal for DG Major Sharma’s visit.
The meeting started with prayer by all and 4-Way Test by Rtn. Iqbal Hakim. After the short Opening Remarks, President invited Rtn. Nilesh Taunk to introduce himself. Nilesh is an MBA and hails from Jhalia, Dhanbad. He is the progeny of Rai Bahadur Taunk, who were the main Railway Contractors for Nagpur – Kolkata railway line. Nilesh showed his command over Gujarat, English and Hindi languages and highlighted turning points of his life, which are as follows:
1. Pramukh Swami Maharaj invited him to Gujarat where he has no roots otherwise.
2. He was the first one, way back in 1991, to start water in pouches at the cost of one Rupee.
3. Yet again, he was the first one to start auto rickshaw advertisement for Pankaj Groundnut Oil.
4. Destiny opens the gates said Nilesh, highlighting his work for Karnavati Express in which his first ad campaign started.
5. He also tried out peanut factory and learnt the most important lesson of his life – “Play to your strength and not for money.”
6. Then he started delivering railway tickets. Can you believe it?
7. Destiny made him a Teacher in Indian Oil Company, SECOM, MBA, BBA SECOM, Bhavans, etc. due to he is so powerful in questioning techniques (art of facilitation).
8. During this long journey, he has played as an escort to the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Shankararcharya, Hindujas, G.K. Noor, Hariom Sharan and many other celebrities. This he attributed to his Guru’s inspiration.
9. He ended by saying that let’s know everyone’s story as every story is interesting and teaches you many things. He praised his daughter Vishakha, whom we might see in one of the next advertisement campaigns for Blood Donation and AIDS of Government of Gujarat. Welcome Mr. & Mrs. Taunk and Charming Daughter Vishakha.
Then was the time for our Assistant Governor Alok Desai, who was flawless in describing his journey since 2000 with RCBM. He thanked Rtn. Iqbal Hakim for initiating him in Rotary fold. He gave rich tribute to RCBM by say that it is his “Karma Bhumi” as well as “Anand Ashram.” After conveying greetings from DG Major Sharma, he beautifully highlighted the journey of RCBM in last 10 years that he observed and reminded everyone that this is a club of ‘Pathfinders,’ ‘Trendsetters’ and ‘Difference Makers.’ Innovative as he is, he came out with a new definition for RCBM in the following words – “Unique blend of ethics and aesthetics!” With utmost humility he put forward the new concept of looking good but also being good human being – is a virtue when combined and implemented.
Then he invited Board of Directors to highlight their plans for the year and achievements so far. Rtn. Manisha and Rtn. Iqbal highlighted their plans. Rtn. Savir Julka and Rtn. Bharat Mehta were absent but were graceful enough to send soft copy to President Sharmishtha who then highlighted on their behalf their suggestions and achievements. Then President herself highlighted her dream year and the goals. She reminded us of RI President John Kenny’s subtle theme – THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS and the most important goal – Membership, which has been achieved but now the target is revised to 50. We are going to induct three to four new members at the time of DG’s visit!
AG Alok Desai concluded by giving some tips about missing things like Scholarship, TRF, etc. He was generous enough to tell everyone that he is really proud to belong to RCBM.
Visiting Rtn. Y.R. Bakshi from RC Dhauladhar, which is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas near Palampur, RI Dist. 3070 was recognized and appreciated by all the Rotarians of our Club. He invited all to his beautiful place.
As always, Mitesh and Manisha, the Club Service Directors are working over time which was evident in the unique menu over which fellowship continued for the next 45 minutes. Those who missed this meeting really missed something important.
